Big Fish
2003 Drama, Fantasy, Romance
this has got to be one of the best movies i’ve seen in a few years, which is destined to become a classic. everything about this film was engaging, intriguing, and heartwarming — and not in a cheesy way. tim burton does an awesome job telling the story of one edward bloom, whose life is so colourful and fantastical. big fish is a bit different than the other burton films i’ve enjoyed that utilize a lot of darkness, such as sleepy hollow and the nightmare before christmas.
ewan mcgregor turns in a great performance as the younger edward bloom (except for that sorry excuse for a southern accent, which, after so many lines, still sounds european to me). alison lohman plays the younger sandra templeton and, although she looks thirteen years old, is a sweet object of affection.
i really love the concept behind the movie. were edward’s stories fact or fiction? ultimately, it doesn’t really matter because he led a charmed and love-filled life, with or without any of his elaborate story-telling.
