Catch Me If You Can
2002 Drama
i went to see catch me if you can tonight with my sisters and two cousins, and i must say that i really liked it. leonardo pulled off the role of frank abagnale jr. very well; i almost cried when i thought of his acting career inflating once again (whether they were tears of joy, i don’t know). the dynamic between tom hanks and leonardo dicaprio was also unexpectedly excellent. and was i the only one who enjoyed the animated introduction? it was so reminiscent of the sixties that i felt like my mother in a polka-dot shift dress.
steven spielberg’s more recent films (i.e., artificial intelligence and minority report) left me feeling disappointed with the closure — if any at all — of the films. i felt that they dragged on far too long and took an interesting concept for a seemingly pointless ride. the film i saw tonight didn’t leave me with that same feeling. spielberg’s successful undertaking of catch me if you can doesn’t prompt me to spend more money on gangs of new york, though. the casting credits on that particular film, save for liam niessen, are far too abysmal to sit through. (gag — cameron diaz — gag!) that one i’ll reserve for the true leo groupies.
catch me if you can was even better to me just by knowing that it was inspired by a true story. very heart-warming and very well-paced. i liked it a lot. two very eager, but very tired, thumbs up. and yes, both are mine. good night.
