I, Robot
2004 Action, Sci-Fi

so, apparently this was supposed to be the “smash hit” of last summer. there was a lot of hype surrounding this movie where i live (vancouver), mostly because it was filmed here. but with all of the computer graphics in the movie, it could have very well been filmed in zimbabwe.

movies with robots (e.g. A.I.: artificial intelligence) have kind of irked me in the past and most will smith films irk me, in general. so, to have a movie that combines both would appear to pose quite a dilemma for me. however, it wasn’t all that bad.

the storyline was a typical adventure/mystery one: someone important dies, some detective has to solve the murder, things aren’t what they seem, detective likes the girl who is his complete opposite… action-wise, i, robot was alright; it wasn’t excellent, but it wasn’t terrible. the main thing that bugged me throughout the film was the product placement throughout (e.g. converse, audi, fedex, etc.). spielberg had the same problem in minority report, but i think that in that particular film, it was in an attempt to show how commercial and marketing-driven the future would be. overall, i, robot — which is really a stupid title — hits the average mark for me.

Final Thoughts
i miss the good old days, when actors acted with other actors… and not just blue screens.
