i thought this movie was “so totally rad” when i was a kid and now realize how truly bad it was. i always remembered depardieu’s line “they think i’m a child molester!” to be hilarious, but now i think it’s kind of creepy and perverted that he even had to defend himself against such allegations throughout the movie. it was an oddly scripted plot.

katherine heigl seems to have been beautiful all of her life, while gérard depardieu seems to have had that huge schnoz all of his life. i thought it was a prosthetic when i first saw it, but then i realized that it really is that big. this movie was funny in a slapstick kind of way, but i couldn’t get the idea of the incestual relationship between father and daughter out of my head. it, like, grossed me out. what i did like in the movie was the allusion to cyrano de bergerac when andré needs his daughter words of love to tell her beau; i loved that movie. this movie wasn’t nearly as endearing.

funny, i remember the cute guy in my father the hero (dalton james) being a lot cuter when i was eleven. now i just see him as the ugly guy from passions — he played the original “hank bennett” on that crappy soap. and emma thompson was in this movie? weird.
