Stuck On You
2003 Comedy
i’ve enjoyed a lot of farrelly brothers’ movies in the past — kingpin, dumb and dumber, and there’s something about mary — but i felt that this particular movie did not live up to the rest of those hilarious classics.
what i really like about most farrelly brothers’ movies is how they manage to put out an emotional message even with the slapstick humour featured in their films. stuck on you achieved that emotional value but was lacking in the hilarity of those aforementioned favourites of mine. although the idea to have academy-worthy actors star in a hokey comedy is an interesting one, i didn’t enjoy the performances of matt damon or greg kinnear (i still love him). and cher was just downright annoying. i didn’t find a lot of the jokes funny and most of the time i was just forcing myself to laugh in order to justify my reluctance to walk all the way up to the dvd player and hit “eject”.
on the bright side, it was kind of cool to see a lot of actors from previous farrelly brothers movies in stuck on you. and if you’ve seen enough of their films (or if you’re just gifted with a photographic memory), you can start saying, “hey, it’s [insert name] from [insert other movie’s title]! how cool!” ok, maybe not many people find the ability to say that very cool, but i do.
