The Big Lebowski
1998 Comedy

i don’t know what to say about this movie, but “WTF, mate?”. it was pretty funny for a while, but the novelty of this movie suddenly petered out midway.

jeff bridges really redeemed himself from the prince of tides — no, wait! that was nick nolte. both are big hacks, so it’s difficult to tell them apart sometimes. jeff bridges did a great job portraying an indifferent, unemployed jack-ass in only a way that jeff bridges can. (hmm, what movies have you done recently, mr. bridges?) john goodman’s character annoyed the hell out of me to the point where i wanted to reach into my television, grab his shirt by the collar, and beat the living daylights out of him. also, steve buscemi’s character seemed extraneous and ultimately useless to the plot.

story-wise, tbe big lebowski, although hailed by many viewers as being la pièce de résistance for the coen brothers, was interesting but, on the whole, rather boring. by the end of the film, the audience is asking themselves why “the dude” would go through so much, while, at the same time, asking themselves why they spent two hours of their lives watching the coen brothers attempt to make another thought-provoking film. nice try, coens, but your kooky films leave me with an even kookier aftertaste that oddly resembles stale bread.

p.s. i’m drunk while i type this. i guess you could say that’s just “the dude” in me talking, but i’m think i’m just drunk like any normal redneck.

Final Thoughts
maybe i just didn’t get it.
